This started out as me wanting to experiment with a 'frame', a style element I saw in *nevermindless 's work that I just wanted to try out.... So, I'd been working on this piece for over a week. Or, more accurately not working. Until Burn by The Cure (off the The Crow soundtrack) inspired me to draw a crow, and I finally managed to finish the piece today. It seems like I'm back to my black & white for a bit, though I was going to add colors to this initially (hence the large shapes)... but the crow made me change my mind.

. 0.2 and 0.1 staedtler pigment liners
. countless hours, of drawing or just staring fruitlessly
. some fiddling in PS to try and get the scanned version to look like the original, which it doesn't. grarrrh.

Wow, this is just astonishing. It's just why I watch you. I know exactly what you mean about the frame type thing in nevermindless' work, you've managed to suggest that, but it's still distinctly your work.
Everything here fits together, and there is not one bit that doesn't seem unique and interesting. I like the fact that there are strong lines that run their way through, linking all the bits of tiny detail work. I know what you mean about _not_ working on a piece, but I think the enjoyment of it comes from doing bits when you feel like it. Just don't feel you have to, otherwise it becomes work...

I think things work better in black and white, so if it were up to me, I'd leave out the colours!

Awesome stuff.

I tried to stick to my own style for the remainder of the piece, which I think I managed to pull off, but the frame thing is so distinctly hers that the end result ended up looking more like her work than I intended. Hm.
